Interview with Lander Silva (vocals/guitar)

Lander, first of all thank you very much for the opportunity and we would like you to tell us about your new moment as a musician outside Brazil.

I am grateful for the opportunity to show a little of Incarcerated's work to everyone who follows Heavy And Hell and contribute with the great work of Renato Sanson. Since I arrived in London in 2016 and with the end of The Sceptic's activities after Cipriano Maffei left, I've continued composing music in the Thrash and Death Metal style, during this period I joined a project called Keelhauling and made part of Decrepid, a band of Old school Death Metal from London but I had a few other ideas that I put into practice after starting Incarcerated.

The legacy left by you and The Sceptic still echoes in the Rio Grande do Sul underground. Is there a possibility that the band will release some new material yet?

I still have some songs written from that time and some ideas that I recorded after the Biopsychosocial was released in 2018, but for the moment I only have time to dedicate to Incarcerated with no intention to record something with The Sceptic.

It didn't take long for you to be back in action, and now we have the London/Brazilian band Incarcerated. How did the invitation come about?

I’d say Incarcerated is an European/Brazilian band that started activities in June 2021 when I found the English bassist Andy Butler Who was looking for a band and soon we found the Spanish guitarist Rafael Rojo and we started playing and writing together, soon the Italian drummer Alberto Pesco appeared for a jam session and we recorded it on video, the rest of the band liked it and soon the quartet was formed, we are a band of musicians from different places and influences which helps to enrich the sound of the band.

What is the difference between the UK scene and the Brazilian one? Since you are included in both.

Right now I'm more inserted in the London and UK scene, here as in Brazil there are many good bands, a lot of competition and also a lot of places to play, the spaces always have a sound engineer and sometimes a roadie too. The cultural aspect is taken very seriously here in Europe and is more stimulated than in Brazil, this is the main difference I see.

Incarcerated's self-titled EP is a great introduction! It shows the power of Thrash/Death Metal, with that Brazilian touch of violence. Is the reception of the same being as expected?

Exactly Renato, we would like to bring to the compositions a more aggressive and violent sound inspired in Thrash and Death metal bands mainly and through the mix a more 1990s atmosphere, a lot of people like that and here the reception is being great from other musicians and also from the general public.

In terms of Brazil, in your opinion, what do bangers think of Incarcerated?

We are a very new band on the scene outside London, I have few opinions from fans in Brazil, but many Brazilian friends who I showed our songs gave us back a positive opinion.

What are the pros and cons of having a Heavy Metal band outside your home country?

Until this moment I don't see much difference between foreign bands and bands from here in terms of public reception or professional opportunities, if the band is good and makes a great sound it will have space anywhere and that's exactly what Incarcerated seeks, to be better every day.

Finally, I'd like you to comment on Incarcerated's future plans and I'll leave a final space for you. Thank you once more!

Incarcerated's main plans are two for this year, we’re trying to go to the finals of the metal battle Metal to the masses where the winning band will have the chance to play at Bloodstock one of the biggest Metal festivals here and we have a studio recording scheduled from September to January for the recording of the our first full length, which will be recorded at The Rogue studio in London where has already produced works by musicians like David Ellefson,  and the mix and master  will be in charge of Russ Russel producer of bands like Napalm Death, At the Gates, Evile, Brujeria, Dimmu Borgir among many others.

I would like to thank you for the opportunity to answer this interview on behalf of Incarcerated and congratulate your work Renato and our partnership for so many years since I was in Brazil, thank you my friend, We are Incarcerated!!
